Every Barestreep shirt is made from 100% cotton, but not every cotton fabric is the same. The fibre, weave, weight, and finish all influence how a shirt looks, feels, and wears over time.
Most of our shirts are crafted from premium Egyptian Giza cotton. Giza cotton is an extra-long staple cotton prized for producing finer, stronger yarns that create a smoother hand feel, a refined finish, and excellent durability. It has long been the preferred choice for many premium men's shirting mills around the world.
Our Classic Canvas shirt is made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton poplin. Poplin is a timeless shirting fabric known for its tightly woven construction, crisp texture, and lightweight feel. It offers a clean, polished appearance while remaining breathable and comfortable enough for everyday wear.
A few styles—including the Archive Shirt, Riviera Shirt, and Pillar Shirt—are made from carefully selected 100% cotton fabrics rather than Egyptian Giza cotton. These fabrics undergo an enzyme wash, a finishing process that softens the fabric while giving it a subtle, natural sheen. The result is a smoother hand feel and a more relaxed appearance, without compromising on breathability or comfort.
We source our fabrics directly from established textile mills rather than through intermediaries, allowing us to maintain consistency in quality. Every fabric is independently lab-tested to verify its fibre composition before it becomes part of our collection.

Washcare
To keep your Barestreep cotton shirts looking and feeling their best, follow these simple care tips:
Washing
- Machine Wash: Use cold water on a gentle cycle to prevent shrinking and preserve the fabric’s quality.
- Separate Colours: Wash light and dark colours separately to avoid colour bleeding.
- Mild Detergent: Opt for a gentle, bleach-free detergent to maintain the integrity of the fabric.
Drying
- Air Dry: Lay flat or hang your shirt to dry naturally. This helps retain the shape and avoids shrinkage.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Dry in a shaded area to prevent colour fading.
Ironing
- Low Heat: Use a warm iron on the cotton setting for a crisp finish. If needed, steam the shirt to smooth out wrinkles.
- Inside Out: Always iron on the reverse side to protect the fabric’s colour and texture.
Storing
- Cool, Dry Place: Store your shirts in a breathable space to keep them fresh.
